We are pleased to announce the publication of our newest digital project: When Melodies Gather by Samuel Liebhaber.
With over sixty audio and video recordings of poems in the Southern Arabian language of Mahri, this project lets you dive in and experience the practice of crafting poetry in an unwritten language. The more theoretically minded should head over to the theory section to find out how to classify poetry that doesn’t fit into formal genre categories. And if you prefer to start with the backstory, find out all about the history and culture of the Mahra, the people who produced this poetry.
Friederike Sundaram is Senior Editor for Digital Projects at Stanford University Press. She is responsible for building the program by acquiring and commissioning projects across the humanities and social sciences.
